What Is a Full-Funnel GTM Advisor? (Not Just a Sales Consultant)
"GTM advisor" gets used loosely, so it's worth being precise about what a full-funnel GTM advisor actually does, and how that's different from the two roles people usually search for instead: a sales consultant, or a fractional CRO.
Sales consultant vs fractional CRO vs full-funnel GTM advisor
A sales consultant typically works inside a sales process that already exists, coaching reps, tightening a pitch, fixing a stage of the pipeline. A fractional CRO usually sits above an existing revenue org, running forecasting, hiring, and quota-setting for a team that's already in place. A full-funnel GTM advisor is upstream of both: the role exists for companies that don't have an org or a process yet, and it covers everything from ICP definition through to whether the company can even be found by a buyer searching for a solution, before there's a pipeline to coach or a team to run.
Why "not just sales" is the actual distinction
One founder I've advised put it more bluntly than I would myself: "You're not just a sales guy, you cover the whole commercial funnel, not just sales like everyone else." That's the useful way to think about it. Most people selling GTM help specialize in one link of the chain, closing deals, or running paid acquisition, or fixing a website's technical SEO, and hand you off for the rest. A full-funnel advisor is accountable for the whole chain: whether the right people can find you, whether what they find explains why you're different, whether the sales process converts them once they show up, and whether it's the right time to hire someone to run that process day to day.

- ICP and positioning. Who you're actually for, and why that's different from "anyone who needs this."
- Findability. Whether the site and content are structured so both Google and AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity can find and cite you, not just traditional SEO.
- Sales process design. Turning however you closed your last 10 deals into a repeatable process someone else could eventually run.
- Hiring timing. Knowing when a company is actually ready for its first salesperson, and what that hire needs to inherit to succeed.
How to check this isn't just a title
The claim is checkable two ways. The revenue side: Head of Sales at Proton, scaling the team from 1 to 10+ across eight consecutive quarters over target, and Senior Enterprise CSM at Productboard at 125% net revenue retention, both real, named, cross-referenceable roles. The findability side: this site itself, every page carries schema.org markup, direct FAQ-format answers, and an llms.txt file built for AI crawlers, built and maintained by the same person doing the GTM work, not outsourced to a separate agency.
Neither half is a shortcut. The commercial side still needs real closed deals to find the pattern, and the findability side still needs time to build authority. But one person accountable for the whole funnel, rather than one slice of it, is the actual difference between a sales consultant, a fractional CRO, and a full-funnel GTM advisor.
